Good Neighbours

Since we are all sharing the Redstone/Pelaw Experienceť the following is a list of considerations which will help us all enjoy our time together.

WATER SAFETY.
-Observe speed limits and be aware of swimmers.
-Maximum speed is 10 km/hr within 30 meters of any shoreline.
-Be aware of the New Boating Regulations.

NO WAKE IN RIVERS OR NEAR DOCKS.
-Right of way goes to sailboats/boards.
-Common courtesy is to be extended to canoeists & paddle-boaters.

WATER QUALITY.
-Use of soaps & shampoos in the lakes and rivers is prohibited.
-Use of phosphate-based fertilizers near the waters is prohibited.
-Clean and flush all motor boats, jet-skis and airplane pontoons coming from other lakes to prevent the introduction of Zebra Mussels.

PERSONAL WATERCRAFT. (PWC)
-No one under the age of 16 is allowed to operate a PWC.
-Due to high noise levels, operate your PWC in the middle of the lakes at least 30 meters away from the shoreline.

BOAT RAMPS.
-Don’t block vehicle access to the boat ramps.
-Once your boat is launched please park your vehicle and trailer well away from the ramp.

TELEPHONES.
-The 911ť Emergency call number is not available in our area.
-Virtually everyone is on a party-line. (One line shared by up to 4 families)
-Keep your call time to a minimum. Don’t use fax machines on your party-line.
-If you are asked to relinquish the line in a emergency, please do so promptly.

PETS.
-Keep your dogs leashed at all times when walking them off your property.
-Keep your cats indoors. They are hard on our song bird population and foxes love them.

WILD ANIMALS.
-Do not intentionally feed wild animals.
-Do not leave garbage where it can be found by wild animals.
-Composting (at the cottage) is not recommended.

ROAD SAFETY.
-Observe posted speed limits. The speed limit in unposted areas is 50 km/hr.
-Wear a helmet when operating all-terrain vehicles and bicycles.

ENVIRONMENT.
-Don’t throw garbage on the roadside, this includes cigarette butts.
-Don’t throw empty bottles or butts into the lakes.
-Be careful not to spill gas or oil into the lake when filling boat motors
-Obey all warnings regarding Fire-Burning.

NOISE POLLUTION.
-Please restrict loud music to the inside of your cottage.
-Please advise your neighbors when you plan to hold a special event (wedding etc;).

NIGHT LIGHT POLLUTION.
-Night lights should be minimized, but where required aimed directly down onto your own property so that your neighbours can enjoy the night sky.
-Spot lights aimed out at your front yard and/or dock shine out across the lake directly at those across the water. Please use low wattage lighting where possible and turn them off when you can. Your neighbours will appreciate it!

JUly 9 07; hello admin: please update this page:
TELEPHONES believe 911 is now available at Redstone

NOISE POLLUTION: excellent tip!

please also add: NIGHT LIGHT POLLUTION: with comment like ” Haliburtion is in the country and at night it does get dark and your cottage neighbours appreciate the darkness that allows excellent night sky viewing, please keep all your out door lighting to an absolute minimum (and no ‘street lights’ at any time PLEASE) and advise you guests that it is dark at night and please equip your guests (and family), should they wish to venture outside in the dark with a rechargable flashlight! ”

Re WATER SAFETY and NO WAKES:

Please remember the maximum speed is 10 km/hr within 30 meters of ANY shoreline —
This includes the shoreline out on the islands. You may think you’re out in the middle of the lake, but for those of us on the islands, you’re boating right in front of our shoreline.

And NO WAKE NEAR DOCKS –
Again, please remember there are docks out here on the islands. We get swamped by wake and waves more times than we should.

Please remember to extend the same boating courtesy to your mainland AND island neighbours, and we’ll all be able to enjoy our cherished time at the cottage!

Thanks! :)

Re: light pollution

Please remember that solar-powered moon rays are easy to install but can’t be turned off and can interfere with our nighttime viewing of the beautiful night sky!
